The new ION packaging!

Posted on 21 April 2009 by Vikram

Today is the second birthday of our [ION USB Charger](http://www.ion.co.in) and we are happy to announce that it is now available in a new and improved packaging!

We needed some improvements to our packaging because:

1. Our previous packaging did not have the product visible.
2. The packaging needs to have a hook so it can be hung – that is how all accessories are placed in a retail store these days.
3. We had room for improvement on the look of the box.

The new packages arrived in a box:

And we soon formed an assembly line. I removed the ions from the previous packaging:

Vikram filtered out the new packages, including rejecting any damaged ones:

Varun folded the boxes and put the new ions in them:

It doesn’t sound glamorous, isn’t prestigious to talk about, but it sure was a lot fun and exciting. That’s what startups are about!

Vikram totally excited

ions galore

Here are the newly-packaged ions stacked back in the box:

Just to put things in perspective, here is our packaging and its size compared to the competition:

I am one of your marketeers, have been recommending your product to anyone who asks me! 😛

I feel putting the URL there looks aesthetically unappealing.

The URL should have been in a white small text with sans-serif font and ION could have been put above that(was it not put due to TM infringement fears?)

I feel ION in that fancy tech-y font with the USB logo followed by a symbol of lightning followed underneath by the URL in the aforesaid manner would look good.

Will this work 100-240v? I mean, can I use this overseas?

If so, A suggestion: any way to have a different plug end available , like the US style flat pin? In India also, these days most plug points and power strips support the flat pin so having something like that might make it globally usable. Ofcourse, only if it worked 100-240v!

@Ravi Thanks for being passionate about our product 🙂 … Is the URL on the top or the side looking unappealing to you? … And thanks for the feedback, we will keep this in mind for future packaging 🙂

@Gowri It will work overseas, we have a standard European plug which will work in most places, except, of course, USA. In our experience, there is almost no standard followed in India, so we have to accommodate what is used by majority of people in India, and that is the Indian fat-sized pins / European thin-sized plug pins. For more information regarding the electrical specifications, please do write to us, and we will provide you more details.

Can you release a version in White as well or maybe in shades of iPOD like blue / pink etc etc : black is boring!!! Of course you would need to do a Cost – Benefit but it would look cool :)) [maybe this is already done and I am too late with the suggestion]
